TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY

HI FRIENDS!! Almost every region in the world has its own Christmas and holiday traditions, and the Basque country is no exception. I'm going to write this article about the Basque Christmas and the "olentzero legend" because they are our own and have been a part of our history for many years.
Christmas in the Basque Country are special mostly because the coal miner called olentzero. The story of Olentzero is one that has seen many changes over the centuries. Nowadays Olentzero has the same characteristics as Santa Claus and Father Christmas; but in my opinion this character is more special and real than the others. Olentzero resembles many older Basque farmers and he is recognisable for any Basque child.

In modern celebrations during the Christmas season in Basqueland, children dress in traditional peasant garb and parade through the streets with an Olentzero singing humorous songs written in the mythical figure’s honour. Also Olentzero gives out candy and little presents to the children. The type of festivities and the appearance of Olentzero can vary a lot from one region to another, depending on the history and geography.  For example in my town olentzero appears from the mountain but in other cities or towns, he appears from the sea, from rivers..
the sentences that the people  often
repeat are "eguberri on" or "urte berri on". This literally translates the famous “Happy new year!” of the English language

HISTORY:

One day, Olentzero was taking his gifts to the children in town, he saw a house burning. He ran to the house to save all  the people in the house, but he was trapped in the flames and he died. The fairy saved Olentzero from death, but she gave him eternal life so that he could continue making and distributing toys to all orphans in Basque Country.

that's all. I hope that you like my article; I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!!!

What did you prefer individual or team sports? This is the typical question that people ask me many often. So I'm going to make an article between the advantages and the disadvantages of these types of sports. Both types of sport have their advantages and disadvantages and there are a lot of reasons to getting fit practicing this sports.

Individual sports: An individual sport refers to a sport which is practiced by two opposing individuals or one individual. The advantages of individual sports are numerous. The first advantage is that can be more attractive to people who are new to sport thanks to the facility with which you can start to take part in them, secondly that you can just go out and do it whenever you want, without having to wait for others. If you are a runner and want to go running, you can just put your running shoes and go out. The individual sports, although, it haves a lot of disadvantages. On one hand is that you don’t have any team members to help that you have more pressure on you when you are playing. These two are the main disadvantages.

Team sports: these types of sports are practiced between opposing teams, where the players interact directly and simultaneously between them. The advantages are that the responsibility for success is equally shared out between all members of the team but on my opinion the best advantage is the community aspect of team sport. This means that you have people to train with and measure yourself against. This means that you can improve a lot like person and like athlete. But like all things on the live the team sports have their disadvantages too.  Disadvantages to being a part of a team are that you have to share everything, you have to share game time, the glory when you win a match...  personally I like much more the team sports that the individual ones because of that I practice the basketball one of the beast team sports on the world.

I hope that you like this work and that you know a little bit more about this!! see you!

amsterdam

Hello people!!!
Do you like the cities of Europe? There are a lot of interesting cities but in my opinion the best city is located  in the Netherlands and is called Amsterdam. So let´s explain why.

Amsterdam is the capital and the largest city of the Netherlands and is located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. The city has a population of 1.36 million of people and very big metropolitan area.

Amsterdam's climate is very good to live. It´s very similar to the British and Irish climate, combining mildness and dampness.

Dutch is the official language of the Netherlands and it's spoken  by over 22 million people as a native language, so if you want to study you can practice it anywhere. In my opinion a very interesting city to visit, especially if you are a student and because of those following factors:

TOURISM
Amsterdam is the 5th busiest tourist destination in Europe, receiving more than 4.2 million international visitors annually. Those numbers speak by themselves but the real reasons for visiting this city are the canals, the museums...

MUSEUMS
The most important museums of Amsterdam are located on the Museum Square, located at the southern side of the city. The museum square was created in the last quarter of the 19th century. It's formed by a lot of museums like the Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum..

In my opinion the best museum that you can visit in this city is the Van Gogh museum because I think that his life and his art works were pasional.

CANALS
The are more than one hundred kilometres of canals in Amsterdam, along with about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges.Iit´s very recommendable to take a walk in a ship around all the canals because it´s really beautiful to see the city on the water.

Here you have some pictures of Amsterdam:
